You’re not autistic, you’re just Dutch! (Sarcasm)

I read the above meme and thought about how familiar it sounded, and how it really does make it seem like directness is only pathologized in a society that doesn’t actually value honesty. So it got me thinking…

In many circumstances intense eye contact is seen as aggressive, confrontational and extremely disrespectful.” You’re not autistic, you’re just from Asia, Africa, or South America!

Don’t care to share what you’re feeling with just anyone? You’re not autistic, you’re just Swedish!

Hate being hugged and having your space invaded? You’re not autistic, you’re just French!

Or maybe you’re just British!

  1. Yes, I wonder about this too. What’s wrong with having a personality that is more direct, or finding that directness, as opposed to more diplomatic approaches like hints or beating around the bush, is the most useful and efficient for your modus operandi? I actually wonder if maybe pathologizing (I guess that’s not a word according to the red line I’m getting but I’m trying to sound like I know what I’m talking about) this directness is some sort of conspiracy to stop my type of personality’s effectiveness!
