You may not be aware, but often in the Autistic/Neurodiversity community we celebrate the day we found out. This is because we see self knowledge as a good thing. March 17th/St. Patrick’s Day is Lady Bug’s official identification/diagnosis day, but we celebrate for the whole family. That’s because it’s also the day that it was pointed out that the boys were likely on the spectrum, too. (Which later in the year proved to be true.) That in turn led to realizing I am on the spectrum, too, though I still don’t have my official stamp of autism yet.
It has been two years. That seems both a very long time and a very short time. It’s hard to believe that only two years ago I had no clue about this community and how it had been affecting our whole lives. I am very grateful for the self-advocates and parents who have helped clue us in so our lives could be so full of joy and love.
Happy autism anniversary to Lady Bug; the one who made it possible for all of us to be identified.
Happy autiversary to you all đź’ś
